We have turned on Protected Actuals so that actuals may only be updated by resource input.
However the table of Task Updates (MSP_EPMAssignmentByDay) already had actuals created by PMs. So our approach was to treat all of the records pre-“Protected Actuals” as a starting point that we could subtract from the current state of records to get the hours added by task updates.
However it appears that where a resource had time assigned to them post-“Protected Actuals” that time is replaced rather than added to. We have only seen this in live and only with one user so far (the rest did not have pre-existing future actuals). But what behavious should we expect? Is it documented anywhere. I think we can deal with it either way – as long as it is consistent.
