PSI: Forcefully Checkin Projects

I need to update a custom field from a custom report (On Submit), this is working only if the project is not already checked out.

If the project is already checked out it is giving an error and the CF is not updated.

Is there a way to forcefully checkin the project before the regular checkout and checkin from PSI or please suggest what is the best way to manage this.  Thanks
