I am importing cost and work estimates for a project from another system and I want to use budget work and budget cost assignments for these so they can be used by the Portfolio Analysis feature to select projects. I can do this manually in Project Professional, but only on the Project Summary task. Even if the budget resources are added to the project and assigned to the project summary task manually, CSOM will not let me update the BudgetWork or BudgetCost fields for the assignment via CSOM. I have read that assignments on summary tasks are a no-no generally speaking, but that is the only way to enter a budget for a project, so this is an exception.
The error that I get is a NullReferenceException, not something more meaningful. I have requested the ULS logs but have not received them yet and I am not confident that they will yield anything more meaningful.
Can this be done via CSOM or PSI? If so, what is the secret?
