Check-in button stays disabled in Project 2010 Professional client

We have recently installed Project Server 2010 in our organization. An existing MS Access 2007 application launches Microsoft Project Professional 2010 client. Behind the scenes it will check-out the project for the user and loads it into the client. Once the user makes changes, he will obviously need to publish and check-in. To avoid the user going to different tabs (most of these users are not computer savvy), I had provided them with a custom group in the default tab (Tasks) that has 2 buttons. I had labelled them as "Step1) Publish" & "Step2) Check-in" for ease of their understanding and use. I had used the customization option to choose these 2 button from "All commands" drop-down. Even though the project is checked out, the "Check-in" button always remains disabled (Publish button works just fine). Looks like the only way a user can check-in the project is by closing the professional client (at which point he will be prompted to check-in).

I would appreciate if someone can tell me how to enable the Check-in button when the user is working on a checked out project in Project Client Professional 2010.

Thanks
